Just a few minutes by boat from Juan-les-Pins, the eucalyptus and umbrella pine forest of Sainte Marguerite Island awaits you. Many paths go through this beautiful island which is the largest of the “Iles de Lerins”. Sainte Marguerite has twenty houses, many of which are occupied by fishermen. But what makes this place so special is the “Fort Royal”, a fortress prison where the Man with the Iron Mask was jailed in the 17th century. The mystery of his identity remains and has been the subject of numerous books and films, such as the 19th century novel by Alexandre Dumas and the 1998 movie starring Leonardo Di Caprio.

A quelques minutes en bateau de Juan-les-Pins, la forêt d'eucalyptus et de pins parasols de l'île Sainte Marguerite vous attend. Cette île est la plus grande des îles de Lérins et de nombreux sentiers la traversent. Sainte Marguerite compte vingt maisons, la plupart habitées par des pêcheurs. Mais la célébrité de l'endroit est due au Fort Royal, la prison forteresse où l'homme au Masque de Fer fut enfermé au XVIIème siècle. Le mystère autour de l'identité du personnage demeure et a été l'objet de nombreux livres et films, notamment le roman d'Alexandre Dumas, Le Vicomte de Bragelonne, et le film de 1998, L'homme au masque de fer, avec Leonardo di Caprio.
