As Easter is coming, it’s a good opportunity to keep in mind Antibes’ Christian heritage. The first Roman Catholic cathedral of the town was probably built before the 10th century. It has been transformed many times until now. Today, the church boasts a baroque-style façade and a splendid portal carved by Joseph Dolle. Inside, there is a remarkable altarpiece painted in the 16th century by a local artist, Louis Bréa. The centre panel shows the Virgin Mary protecting the faithful and the clergy with her mantle. It is surrounded by fifteen smaller panels depicting Joy, Pain and Glory.
The cathedral is situated in the centre of the Old Town, right beside the Picasso Museum.

Pâques arrive et c'est l'occasion de se rappeler l'importance du patrimoine religieux d'Antibes. La première cathédrale catholique de la ville fut probablement construite vers le Xème siècle. Depuis lors, elle a subi de multiples transformations. Aujourd'hui, l'église comprend une façade baroque et un splendide portail sculpté par Joseph Dolle. A l'intérieur se trouve un remarquable retable peint au XVIème siècle par l'artiste provençal Louis Bréa. Le panneau central représente la vierge Marie offrant la protection de son manteau aux fidèles et au clergé. Autour de lui, quinze panneaux plus petits évoquent la joie, la douleur et la gloire.
La cathédrale d'Antibes se trouve dans la Vieille Ville, juste à côté du musée Picasso.
